Updates from the Mission Formation Team

The Mission Formation Team (MFT) exists to guide the congregation in our missions involvement, both domestically and overseas. We desire to connect our members with opportunities for outreach in many places outside of our church campus, including Durham, Chapel Hill, and overseas.

The MFT met on August 5 for a discussion that built on a greater commitment to local outreach than we have had before. We talked about a need to better know our long-standing partners. What are their needs, culture, strategy, and how can our church help to strengthen their presence in Durham and in so doing, strengthen our fellowship with them? One possibility would be to develop champions within CGS for each of our local partners.

We are including a former CGS local partner, DurhamCares, in this discussion and will commit to participation in one of the DurhamCares pilgrimages to gain a better understanding of Durham’s needs as a city. Serving this city more fully is an important part of our commitment to local outreach. As we continue to learn about the city, we will challenge our congregation toward greater engagement in knowing and serving locally just as we do globally.

The current members of the MFT are:

Norman Acker (Ruling Elder, Southwest Neighborhood)
Richard Alford (Deacon, Northeast Neighborhood)
Oscar Aylor (Ruling Elder, Southeast Neighborhood)
Mandy Balevic (Northwest Neighborhood)
Debbi Busbee (Northeast Neighborhood)
Chris Garrett (Teaching Elder, Northwest Neighborhood)
Colleen Hieronymus (Southeast Neighborhood)
Aaron McKethan (Ruling Elder, Southeast Neighborhood)
Brenda Pun (Downtown Neighborhood)

Please continue in prayer for us.

CGS Elders

The Session is the group of elders called to care for, serve, equip, and oversee a local Presbyterian congregation. We meet on the first Monday of each month to pray, discuss the ministries of the church, and encourage and sharpen one another.
