Following college at UNC, Chris joined Campus Crusade, where for several years he traveled the world with Dr. Bill Bright as Bill’s assistant. Two years of campus ministry followed, and then a Masters of Divinity at Gordon-Conwell Seminary in Boston. His first PCA ministry role was as youth minister at The Church of the Good Shepherd until 2002 when the Lord called the Garretts to the Philippines for four years with Mission to the World. Deeply impacted through working with the poor in the Philippines, upon his return to Durham, North Carolina, Chris helped found Samaritan Health Center (www.SamaritanHealthCenter.org), a Christian medical ministry which reaches out to the underserved and uninsured in Durham. In August, 2012, Chris returned to CGS to serve as East-West Flock Minister as well as Global Outreach Minister. He believes this is the perfect combination of roles – to be able to serve the body both here in Chapel Hill and overseas, by connecting our church to our overseas workers.

Jenny hails from Houston, Texas where she learned early on to love all things outdoors. Following college at Sewanee and teaching middle school, she started a youth ministry program in Atlanta. Jenny finally met Chris when they were both at Gordon-Conwell in Boston studying for their Masters of Divinity.

The Garretts have four kids (Caroline, John, Christopher & Brooke) and enjoy all manner of outdoor sports and outings. You likely might find them on the American Tobacco Trail or at a soccer park on the weekends.
