Passage: Hebrews 7:11-28
1. Share a time when you discovered a “better” way to do something—a new way to build something, a better way to organize, a more compassionate approach to a problem, etc. How did you feel about the discovery?
2. When you read about the Old Testament (Levitical) priesthood, tabernacle, and sacrificial system, how do you tend to react? Why?
3. How might you explain its purpose to someone who is not a Christian and is not familiar with these concepts?
4. What are some “priestly longings” that you see in your life? In other words, ways you long for access, nearness, wholeness, connection with something bigger than you?
5. Mark used the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) as an analogy for the purpose of the Levitical priesthood. Did this help you understand? Are there other analogies you can think of?
6. What is the problem with the Levitical priesthood?
7. Explain how the author of Hebrews brings Melchizedek into his argument. Where does he get this idea? What are some of the points he’s making with Melchizedek? What’s your reaction to this?
8. What are some ways that you see the shortcoming of the Law in your life? What are some examples of how you know the right thing to do, but don’t exhibit the will or power to do it?
9. What aspects of Jesus’ perfected priesthood (there were many) most resonated with you? Why?
10. What are some ways God may be calling you to serve as his royal priesthood this week? This month? This year? How can we pray for you in this?
