As you are aware, the predicted storm track for Hurricane Florence suggests that landfall for the storm's center will occur along the North Carolina coast. However, it appears probable that the storm will follow a more southerly inland course than was originally predicted, and there is thus less likelihood of a direct trajectory towards Durham.
Nevertheless, the National Hurricane Center continues to project high probabilities of sustained winds in excess of 50 mph, accompanied by heavy rainfall and flooding. These conditions are highly likely to create substantial transportation problems for people in our congregation. Additionally, if/when power outages occur the ability of CGS to communicate effectively regarding schedule alterations becomes compromised.
Taking all of these factors into consideration, the following schedule changes have been decided upon:
i) All activities - for all age groups (nursery thru adults) are cancelled for the SMC hour.
ii) Our regular Sunday Worship Service will be held at the usual time, regardless of conditions and irrespective of whether the CGS facility has power. If your personal circumstances permit you to do so safely, come join us at 10:45 this Sunday! We will share a sweet time of praise and worship together!
iii) There will be nursery care provided for the 10:45 regular Worship Service. There will however not be a separate Children's Worship during the 10:45-12:00 timeframe. All of our non-nursery aged children are warmly welcomed to bring their energy and their voices to our "adult" worship service: we celebrate having them among us (and we have hundreds of "Kids' Notes" printed in preparation!
We extend this announcement to all of our church family at CGS, asking for your prayers for our community and the communities across the entire Southeast during the days ahead.
