CGS Refugee Work in the News

Sometimes you don’t know exactly what the Lord has in store for you when you volunteer for a ministry. Nearly nine months ago a group of CGS members led by Rachel and Doug B. felt called to directly help with Syrian refugee resettlement. And since their adopted family arrived in February, the friendship has developed in beautiful ways. This article highlights the dangers and difficulties this Syrian family faced as they tried to leave their home country and seek help and a new future somewhere else. When asked when they knew they were coming to North Carolina, they replied, “When we arrived at the airport in NYC, they told us we were being sent to somewhere called Durham!” And that is where the story of our church’s connection with them begins. Take time to read about their journey and the the ways that lives here at the church have become intertwined with their own. It’s a beautiful story, one that is in the early stages of being written!
